PSI offers quarterly workshops to help foster parents strenghten their skills and share experiences with staff and other Foster Parents. This helps in developing new ideas about child care. Quarterly training is required by the state and the number of hours may vary by state.

PSI can send a representative out to speak with groups large or small about PSI foster parenting. For additional information call Greater Works Ministries at 219-852-0677 or visit PSI Family Services online to learn more!

Protect Hunger Relief Programs!

Protect Hunger Relief Programs!

Next week, the House of Representatives will begin debating the Farm Bill. The House proposal would cut SNAP (Food Stamps) by $20.5 billion over the next 10 years. That’s a loss of 8 billion meals, or the equivalent of the entire Feeding America network of food banks shutting down for 2.5 years. We cannot let this happen.

Help us send a message to Congress by joining our National Call-in Day on Tuesday, June 18th. This is a critical opportunity to demonstrate strong support for TEFAP and SNAP and protect programs that help put food on the table for Americans struggling with hunger.

National Call-In Day June 18th

Calling Congress is easy. Here’s how:

  • Call our toll-free hotline at 866-527-1087
Listen to the pre-recorded message and enter your zip code when prompted. Once you are connected to your Representative, state that you are a constituent and give your name and the town you are calling from. Be sure to give the name of the food bank or local agency you are affiliated with.
  • Let them know you are calling about the Farm Bill and deliver this important message: “As your constituent, I am asking you to vote against the House Farm Bill due to the cuts to SNAP. With so many families still struggling to put food on the table, it is important to protect and strengthen programs like SNAP and TEFAP. I understand the need to reduce the deficit, but increasing hunger is not the way to do it.
  • Spread the word by sharing with your local networks and on social media.

Often times SNAP is the only thing helping people stay out of the pantry line, so any cuts to the program will mean an increase at our already overloaded agencies. We appreciate your continued support of the Food Bank and our mission, but we also need your support in advocating for those who are going hungry. It takes less than five minutes to make a call, so please help us show Congress that Northwest Indiana cares about our hungry neighbors.
